Westmoreland Mine

     Westmoreland Mine learned that there was an issue with the path that their released water would follow. They had several pre-existing culverts, which had forced the movement of water to change to unfavourable locations. They would be unable to reroute the water without the removal of the culverts. During this release of water, the in-use culverts had a secondary concern with soil erosion. The water would wash out the riprap when releasing it, causing soil erosion along the route.

     Eco Concrete Levelling used 2 separate materials to accomplish this project. We were able to use closed-cell foam to block the inside of the culvert, forcefully rerouting the water. We then capped the end of the drain to provide extra support. We also implemented a product, Bandit, to prevent soil erosion. We had topped the current soil with pea gravel, then sprayed Bandit over the top. This provided a stable foundation for the water to flow along a natural course, preventing any more loss of soil. An added advantage to utilizing Bandit is that it can deter vegetation growth around the required location.

Right from the first meeting with Bud and Curtis, we were impressed with the knowledge, professionalism and courtesy of both individuals. Once they toured our site and seen the issues we were contending with they put a plan together for us and stuck to it. The crew that came to the site were prompt and professional as well. They followed all safety and regulatory policies we have in place. Curtis and their crew did a great job with the work they performed and when they left they left our site improved.
